Unfortunately, costs for your pet can mount if visits to the vet are becoming a frequent occurrence, and for many of us our pets are worth the expense. However, there is a way to alleviate the financial pressure of the medical care your pet receives; with pet insurance.

Pet insurance is available from various providers that can offer the security that so many owners need to ensure they don’t get into financial difficulty. So how do you know which policy to choose?

Well, firstly it obviously depends on the type of pet you own. If you have a house cat that spends its day’s laying in the sunshine, the policy needed will be far different for a farm dog working in a field, so it’s important to know what cover you’re expected to need. Obviously, you also need to take your pets age into consideration; a puppy may be young and healthy but it is also likely to chew various household items or run away when being walked. An older dog may be better trained but as it ages, it may start to suffer from joint or dental problems – if you choose the right insurance company, you can ensure the cover is made clear for your pet.

One of the main aspects to check is to ensure the policy you choose suits your pet’s needs. You don’t want an incident to occur that you thought was covered by your pet insurance, only to find out this isn’t the case; resulting in a huge vet’s bill a few weeks later.

With this in mind, it is often the cost of insurance that sways the policy a person chooses, but by choosing the right insurance, you may find you actually save money because you may not need cover for expenses such as neutering or spaying if this has already occurred.

There are also some policies that will provide cover for various situations, which may be better suited to your lifestyle. For example, there are companies that offer cover to help you find your pet should they go missing, as well as help you find a registered pet owner if you are due to go on holiday; it’s these small extras that can really make the difference to the policy you choose and the decision of which provider you go with.

Finally, take the time to research the various companies out there; don’t just rely on comparison websites, but speak to people and utilise resources such as the internet to find companies that are offering competitive deals.

Many people often decide not to have insurance due to the additional expense month on month, however the risk of a tragedy occurring plus the additional stress of vet’s bills far outweighs the small amount you can pay to cover your pet year on year in order to secure your pet’s health and your wallet!

Pets are a great way to teach children responsibility, relieve stress and just provide a little entertainment around the house. Knowing that you have a furry companion to come home to every day is a great feeling. Dogs are great to have around as well to help protect your house and ward off intruders. Cats are great pets if you wish to have something that views you as a humble servant in its kingdom. And, if you choose to adopt a pet you could be saving that animal’s life!

You may think that your pet lives a luxurious life void of any concerns or commitments. And honestly, compared to you, they really do. Their days pretty much revolve around sleeping eating and lying in the sun. It’s not a bad life at all. But, this does not mean that your little furry friends are not prone to experiencing stress. Animal stress is a common problem among pets everywhere. Like humans, animals are also creatures of habit and they can become particularly perturbed when you are moving. It takes them time to acclimate to their new surroundings just like any person who is moving to a new area. If you follow these tips you will be able to help your dog or cat avoid stress during your move.

Local Move – If you are just moving locally it may be wise to leave your pet with a friend during the course of the move. This way your pet does not have to experience the move first-hand and then you can incorporate them into their new surroundings when your new home is all set up and ready go. The less change your pet has to experience, the better.

A Favorite Toy – We all love our pets. But, dogs and cats are not always the most brilliant, logical companions! They’re confused during a move and could definitely use a familiar item to soothe their minds. Giving them their favorite stuffed animal or other toy during the move can give them a sense of familiarity during the move and help alleviate their stress level.

New Tags – Make sure that you get the tags with your new address and phone number before you go through with your move. This is important to ensure that you will be contacted correctly if your pet decides to run away during your move.

Territory – Cats and dogs can be territorial creatures. If you give them their own little space in their new home they will feel much more comfortable with their surroundings and will become acclimated to them more quickly.

Keep Them Safe – By storing you pet in a kennel during the move they will not be able to run free. This will prevent them from being subject to things like falling boxes and prevent them from getting underfoot of one of the movers and causing damage to them or your belongings.

Your pet is a valued member of your family. It is important to make sure that they stay as happy possible during your move. Just think — you fully understand the scope of your move and you still get stressed out about it. So, imagine what your pet goes through. Follow some of these simple steps and you will make your upcoming relocation much easier on both you and your pet!

Worming your cat or dog is an extremely important part of protecting him or her from harmful parasites that could negatively affect his or her health. A comprehensive worming treatment plan, discussed with your vet, is your best bet against fighting the common types of worm infections that frequently plague cats and dogs.

It’s much easier to prevent worms and parasitic infections than it is to treat an infection after an animal is infested, so being proactive is the best plan of action. You can also buy wormers over the counter and online:
www.vet-medic.com/Brands/Drontal/list.htm

A dog or cat can get worms from a variety of different sources, both inside and outside. Some of the most common sources include infested soil, raw meat, fleas, feces of infested animals, and mosquito bites. Kittens and puppies are also at risk of being infected from their mother during the birthing process. It’s possible for all cats and dogs of any age to get worms, but there are some situations that put dogs and cats at higher risks for worms. Avoid exposing your cat or dog to other animal feces, areas where there may be fleas, or places where a dog or cat could potentially dig or scavenge through contaminated soil or wooded areas.

The different types of worms that most commonly affect dogs and cats are roundworms, tapeworms, heartworms, hookworms and whipworms. A cat or dog may appear perfectly fine, even when they have worms, so it’s tough for many pet owners to discover that their cat or dog has worms. Regular vet visits to test a dog or cats stool for worms is a good way to check that your pet is worm-free. You can also keep a close eye on your pet for any signs that he or she may have worms.

Some signs that may be an indicator that a dog or cat has worms include a lack of energy, weight loss, diarrhea, a dullness of the coat, change of appetite (either increase or decrease), a swollen stomach, and difficulty of breathing. As is the case with any major change in behavior, you should be aware that a change has taken place and contact a vet to see if something could be seriously wrong.

A proper worming schedule set up by your veterinarian will protect your dog or cat from more serious health issues that could come from a worm infestation. Puppies and kittens should be dewormed every two weeks until they are around three months old. Adult cats and dogs should be treated regularly, dependent on their exposure to areas where they could get worms.

Preventative measures will guard against worms, and also intestinal parasites. Talk with a veterinarian about a specific schedule for your pet that works best with your pets lifestyle and needs. Also be sure to have a fecal examination for worms done at least once per year in order to ensure that your pet is healthy and worm-free. It’s much easier to take preventative measures to guard against worms than it is to treat a dog or cat that has worms. Once a dog has worms, the possibility for reinfestation is very high, and all worms, eggs and larvae must be completely killed to ensure reinfestation does not take place.

I recently got a kitten when she was about 8 weeks old. Crying the entire way home, she seemed distraught and terrified enough to make me question whether I was doing the right thing in taking on the responsibility of taking care of this kitten on my own. My mom, down to visit for Thanksgiving at the time, reassured me that there would not be much to it. To own a cat, all you really need to do is feed them, give them water and some toys, and show them where the litter box is, she said.

In the first few weeks with my kitten, I found that my mom was totally right. Not only was she adorable, she was pretty much hassle-free. As long as I kept litter in her box, she was fine going to the bathroom on her own, and she never went in the house.

Unfortunately for me, her tastes have changed as of late. She is still fine using her litter box, but she has become much more particular about exactly how she wants her litter box to be kept, and, if not up to her standards, she will find other places to go. Unfortunately, I was a not quite in-tune with this change of preference. After too many moments of shock and despair, I finally decided to figure out the best ways to make sure she uses the litter box every time. Here are three simple things that can make a huge difference:

1. Scoop Litter Every Day

When my kitten was a baby, she was just a tiny little figure inside a huge litter box. Now that she’s older, she goes through litter more quickly and needs it scooped daily to keep it clean. If your cat is having trouble using the litter box, try this method.

2. Change Brands of Litter

Some cats can be finicky. My kitten has no problem with natural wheat litter, but hates cedar tree pellets. You have to keep trying different brands until you can find something you both agree on.

3. Change Out Litter as Soon as You Smell It

When you own a cat, sometimes the smell of cat litter can become such a regular scent in your home that you forget that, in reality, if the litter is clean, you shouldn’t be able to smell it. If your cat is choosing to use the restroom elsewhere, the smell may be too strong.

When it comes to caring for man’s best friend (or any pets, really), most people are willing to lay down the cash required for food, toys, bedding, and other necessities (hygienical goods and services, for example). But some animal owners may balk when it comes to medical costs. Certainly they are aware of the need for annual visits, shots, and even dental cleanings, but when it comes to unexpected health issues the cost can rise to an alarming sum very quickly (depending on the medical needs of the pet in question). And if owners can’t cover these expenses they may have to deal with a very sick animal, ongoing debt, or even the prospect of euthanasia if they simply can’t pay and the animal is suffering too much. However, there is another option: pet insurance. It may add to your monthly bill, but considering how much it could save you in the event of a major health crisis, it could be worth the up-front cost. So here are just a few tips to help you choose the policy that is right for you and your pet.

A good place to start is by talking to your vet about health insurance for your pets. In most cases your vet will have pamphlets from several companies to show you (since many insurers leave these calling cards at veterinary offices). At the very least he may have information on the programs that he finds to be better than the rest (for whatever reason). And some veterinary practices even offer their own in-office program that will help to dispel the cost of routine visits, shots, and even emergency illnesses and injuries. Of course, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel here by doing all of the research yourself. The internet also offers many resources to help you compare coverage plans.

But what are you looking for? There are several things to compare, starting with the coverage that is offered and the cost of insurance. Like medical insurance for humans, there are a variety of factors that determine the price for holding a policy. You will need to consider how much you want to pay monthly versus how much coverage you’ll get, including not only percentages for visits and procedures, but also the deductible and the maximum payout amounts. You should also find out if you’ll have to pay up front and wait for reimbursement or if your vet’s office can bill the insurance company directly to recoup costs.

And you need to find out if the policy will change over time. Will premiums go up each year as your pet ages? Will the company charge you more if they do have to pay out on a claim, or if your pet develops a chronic condition that requires ongoing treatment? Do they have the option to drop your coverage after a certain amount of expense? These are all pertinent questions to ask before your decide on a policy. It’s not like shopping online, where you can wait for sales and use promo codes to bring down the price. Health insurance for your pet is pretty straightforward (although you should still read the fine print). So it behooves you to do your homework and comparison shop in order to get the best coverage at the most reasonable price. Then, when your cat, dog, or lizard has a health lapse you won’t have to worry about how you’re going to pay to keep your best friend alive.

Fortunately, for most of us, it’s something that tends not to last too long, as we have countless ways of alleviating it. Consequently, it’s something that we don’t really consider a serious problem. Pets, too, can be bored. Unlike their owners, however, there’s not much they can do about it except suffer it in silence, or, at the opposite extreme, tear up the house, as more than a few dog owners have found to their cost.

Pets depend on us to provide them with a quality of life that not only ensures they are physically healthy and mentally alert, but also happy and comfortable. Comfort is easy to manage. Pets need a warm environment, with good ventilation. Electric heating systems maintain a constant and ideal temperature for them, and many pet owners consider them a good investment for this purpose.

Dogs need to be walked. For the dog, a walk is an adventure filled with challenges and prizes. Physically, it’s getting essential exercise. Mentally, it’s a tremendous lift for the dog. The scenery is constantly changing with a hugely expanded horizon; completely different from the stuffy confines of its home. Objects lying on the ground are checked out one by one, until the dog’s curiosity is satisfied. A simple walk is probably the greatest and healthiest stimulation a dog can have. It’s not such a bad activity for the owner, either.

Cats are less needy in this respect. They’re independent, and would probably look at you in disgust, if you suggested taking them for a walk. Cats that are allowed to roam should, ideally, be able to come and go via a cat flap, if possible. That’s a definite convenience, not only for the cat, but also the owner, who needn’t be at the cat’s beck and call. The old saying that “dogs have masters and cats have staff”, certainly seems to have a ring of truth about it at times.

Cats at home should have various toys to provide distractions. Owners should make a point of playing with their cat. It may or may not respond to their invitation, but that’s how cats are. They let you know, when you’re needed.

Smaller pets, such as hamsters and caged birds, should have distractions built into their cages. Everything needs to be on hand at all times. Don’t forget about them. Interact with them. Talk to them. Even if they’ve no idea what you’re talking about, at least you’re providing a distraction Many pet owners leave a radio on all day, when their pet is at home alone to provide some feeling of activity.

Exotic pets, such as tropical fish, lizards and spiders, need controlled temperatures. Electric heating systems are needed for maintaining the correct conditions for creating mini tropical environments.

Finally, keep in mind that bored pets can become depressed, obese and increasingly unhealthy. Happy pets, on the other hand, are usually healthy and long-lived.

Fans of the reality show America’s Got Talent may be familiar with the name Gregory Popovich. He showed up at the Los Angeles auditions during the second season (back in 2007) and made it all the way through to the top ten with his trained animal act before being eliminated. But it seems that he was training animals to perform tricks and act out skits long before he appeared on the show, and he wasn’t about to give it up due to a little setback like being voted off of reality TV. In fact, Gregory Popovich has since made a name for himself with his Comedy Pet Theater by taking his furry friends on the road to entertain audiences around the world. And his act has grown somewhat in the process.

When he first made his way onto national radar with America’s Got Talent, he started with a trained cat act, followed by a trained dog act, both of which the judges seemed fairly impressed with (he was advanced to the next round each time, anyway). But when he got to the semifinals he performed a skit entitled “The Homeless Clown”, which was far more indicative of what his act would eventually become. Unfortunately, the judges were none too pleased with this stretch, complaining that he had made the act more about himself than the animals. And it was after this that he was voted off the island, so to speak.

But he picked himself up, dusted himself off, and began to expand. He enhanced his show with more animals (these days he has 15 cats and 10 dogs in his show), added some people to the lineup (a slew of European-style clowns), and created a show that features juggling and balancing acts (performed by people and pets alike), animal antics (including plenty of trained tricks), and skits that have the animals interacting with humans in surprising and often comedic ways. And after a tour of twenty countries, ending with the world famous Moscow Circus, this family-friendly show has made its way to Las Vegas.

Although most people love to see an impressive circus act full of animals, some might be tempted to question the treatment of the animals involved in the show. But there is certainly something to be said for the fact that each of these pets was rescued from an animal shelter, proving that literally any animal can be trained (whether in the home or on the road). And all of the animals featured seem to be healthy and happy, which is a lot better than languishing in a shelter from which they might never be rescued.

While you can travel the world to see a clown act, exotic animals, or a magician Surrey to Singapore, this animal trainer and entertainer is right in your own back yard. And considering that he also seems to be an animal lover that puts on a great show, there’s really no reason not to support him and his amazing cast of performing pets. You can find him in residence at the V (Variety) Theater in Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino with show times Thursday through Tuesday weekly.

The reason behind this is because pets are so loving and caring. They often fill a void in our lives, and making them look absolutely beautiful is important to so many pet owners. It shows a respect for the pet, and it lets the owner know that they are doing the right thing for the animal.

One of the best ways to keep your pet looking beautiful is by feeding it the right types of food. You can buy dog food online that will really help your dog’s coat to shine like it never has before. The dog food can be found at many retail stores online, so it is in your best interest to shop around and try to get some samples of foods that will promote a healthy looking coat for your dog.

When you are looking for pet food online, you should also check for food that promotes healthy teeth and gums. If you can get a combination of foods that will help with the coat and the teeth, then you will have found something special. If you cannot find these foods together online, you can simply purchase one for the coat and one for the teeth, and then mix the foods together at home. Many pet owners, especially dog owners, take a great amount of pride in their dog’s teeth and coat. Getting the right food into your pet helps with both of these goals.

Cat owners can also get cat food delivery services right to their own home. You should find a cat food that promotes the fur and the teeth as well. Cat lovers also need to find a food that will help to prevent the cat from having hair balls. There are treats available as well that will help with the hair balls, teeth, and immune system. In order to have a beautiful cat or any pet, the animal must feel good from the inside as well as look great from the outside.

Typing the words “pet food deliver” into your favorite search engine will give you a lot of choices of foods that will help to make your pet look beautiful each day. The food can be delivered directly to your home, and all that you will have to do is continue to feed and groom your pet.

They take some getting used to. But if you’re a fan of the felines, you know how they can worm their way into your hearts and make you feel all fuzzy inside just by watching them lick their paws and look at you disdainfully. I think cats are so loveable simply because they don’t care. They don’t care if you love them, and so they don’t pretend to be something else simply for the attention. A cat is a cat. They don’t care about your agenda or to-do list.

Case in point: I have two cats that both needed to be neutered. Rather than try to juggle two cat carriers at once, I took them in one at a time. I later learned that this was a mistake, but we’ll get there.

My first cat, Max, went to the vet’s without a fuss. He calmly slept in his carrier on the way there like I was his personal chauffer (which, I guess, I am). When we got to the vet’s however, he could tell something was up. I took him inside, and when it was time for his appointment, I took him out of his carrier to hand him to the vet. Max however, had a different idea.

He shot from my hands and toward the front door, which was propped open because the AC wasn’t working that day in the vet’s office. When he made it to the open door of freedom, he climbed the nearest tree, jumped to the roof of the vet’s office, and stayed there for a full hour. All of the coaxing on my part couldn’t get him to come down. My husband had to come to the rescue with some of Max’s favorite toys, which finally convinced him that the ground was better than the hot roof. We finally got him neutered and I went home to grab Spaz.

Spaz and Max seemed to have a conversation. Spaz wouldn’t even get in the carrier after he saw Max. He was tearing through our house like a tornado. I knew without a doubt, that at this rate, Spaz would probably end up on the roof just like Max. We didn’t get to take him to the vet that day. In fact, we had to wait a full month before he would even get into his carrier. See? Cats just don’t care about our human schedule and to-do lists.

But cats can be especially caring and sweet, which is why we love them. One night, after they had both recovered from their surgeries, I walked past them already sleeping peacefully on their cat beds. Both cats woke up, followed me into my room, and snuggled with me as I fell asleep. How can you not love that?
