What do you do when you get a new puppy home and, after looking around, you simply can’t find delicious healthy treats that are packed with nutritious ingredients? Ingredients that you actually recognise!
If you are anything like Will and Alex from the company Ede & Roxie you set out to create those healthy foods yourselves. After days of cooking up batches of rice and chicken however, they soon realised that there had to be a better way, and so their brand was born.
We welcome them to Pet Hooligans today to talk about their two beautiful dogs and how they proved to be the inspiration for their new venture.
Welcome Alex and Will, please tell us more about your two little hooligans.
Ede is a Patterjack and fast approaching her 2nd birthday. We have had her since a puppy and everyone that meets her instantly falls in love, she looks a little like a puppy black lab – which helps!
Roxie is just over a year old and she had a very troubled start to life. She is an Andalusian Podenco and we actually rescued her from Ayamonte, Spain via a local charity. We know only a little about her past but what we do know is that she spent the first 6 months of her life either in a basement or moving from temporary accommodation to other foster homes. We were over the moon to see her at long last in the UK in June this year and she has settled in well. A complete bundle of energy she will run for hours, but she is the most affectionate dog that I have ever come into contact with, all she wants is to be cuddled and loved.
As this is Pet Hooligans spill the beans on whether Ede and Roxie ever get up to any mischief?
They both get into all sorts of mischief, they both love to dig and “help” with the gardening, though the long walks help them settle on a daily basis. We are lucky however, and we have had no major incidents, apart from when we accidentally left the guest bedroom door open. As the dogs saw it, that was obviously an invitation to tear up the pillows, pull the sheets off the bed and drag all their toys into the room to have what appeared to be a very good playtime.
What was it about adopting Ede and Roxie that gave you inspiration for your new company?
Our dogs, like most, love to have treats (don’t we all!) and I often gave them dental sticks. However, it was only when I paid particular attention to the ingredients on the back of a packet that I realised how totally awful these things are for your pet. How can something loaded with sugar be sold as an oral care product!?! We immediately changed our dogs onto alternatives like carrots, but we couldn’t help think that the poor dogs where losing out. We all deserve a treat after all!
Starting a healthy pet food brand had always been a long term aim but the arrival of Ede and Roxie just started the ball rolling a little earlier. So we set about turning our dream into a reality and here we are now with our very first product, Marvellous Morsels. These tasty treats are hard and therefore dogs love to chew them. Even better they are free from artificial flavours and colours, made up of a minimum of either 80% poultry or fish and hypoallergenic with no added grains or cereals.
We are now working on the new menus for the launch of our complete foods. These will follow the same line as our nibbles, low in grain high in protein and all natural.
I want to thank Will and Alex for dropping by to talk to us today and if you are looking for delicious healthy treats for your dog you will be pleased to know that the Marvellous Morsels are now available from the Ede & Roxie website. Why not let your dog try them out and then you can look forward to the new menu launching early next year.
When you know that so much love and care has gone into a product you can feel confident feeding the treat to your dog. All the foods offered are made from healthy ingredients and created right here in the UK. Head over to the Ede & Roxie website to read more about their story and to pick up some morsels for your dog. What a great treat for them that would be, wrapped up in a big bow under the tree.
