Pet photography is becoming more and more popular. Times have changed and people no longer see animals as just a pet to stroke and take out for a walk, they are now being accepted as full members of the family with vast amounts of money being spent on their wellbeing and entertainment. People buy toys and even fashionable clothes for their pets so why not get them a portrait done as well? It is reported that in 2011 Americans spent $53billion on their pets showing that the market and the money spent on pets is now huge. In this article I will give a few tips on how to go about getting some photos done of your prize possession.
Try Taking Photos Yourself
Plenty of money can be saved by attempting to do the photos yourself and as long as you have a reasonably good camera there is no reason why you can’t get respectable photos done. The first thing to say is that it is essential to shoot lots of photos, don’t just do a couple and think they are ok, try out with different lighting conditions, poses, exposure amounts etc…and then choose the best ones at the end. To get your animal in to a good pose use treats and squeaky toys or have someone off camera getting their attention so it looks like the animal is staring at the camera itself. Get down to your pet’s level and try taking a photo from their perspective rather than always looking down on them, also if they have any party tricks then try a get a shot of them and perhaps do a triptych photo. The key thing in any photography is lighting, this is what separates the amateurs from the professionals, being able to get the lighting they require.
If you have the money to spend on it then you should definitely go professional, professional photographs are not only taken well but are edited well afterwards to make them crystal clear.
Displaying Your Photos
Once you have your photos it is time to decide how to print and display them, there are many options from having it printed on canvas or aluminium to going the classic way and just having it printed on glossy paper then mounted and put in a frame of your choice. Aluminium printing is the most modern way of displaying photographs and will really fit in with your house if you have a chic, contemporary home but will cost more money.
