Do you prefer cats or dogs? One of the most historic and complicated questions when it comes to buying a pet for your family and your home, and there are many things to consider. Both animals are very different physically as well as emotionally, and if you’re thinking about getting either one – or even both – you must consider how your own personality may clash with theirs. There are many reasons why people prefer cats rather than dogs, but that doesn’t mean that dogs make boring pets – cats are just a little more interesting! Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of owning a cat over a dog.
Cats Are Independent
One of the best and most noticeable things about cats is that they’re very independent – sometimes you won’t see them for days on end. As long as you leave food out and some water, they know they can return to the safety of their home, most likely with a dead mouse, refuel and be on their way again. Cats learn very quickly, and instead of having to train them like dogs, they explore and find things out for themselves.
Cats Are Confident
As your cat gets older, you’ll start to see a confident spring in their step, whether they’ve just learnt to jump from the table to the drinks cabinet, or they’ve found a new jumper of yours to hide in. At first, cats can be very shy creatures, but this barrier is easily broken if you treat them with love and attention. Sometimes they’ll creep into your room at night, or jump up on the sofa when you’re reading, and simply sit with you, purring as they snuggle up to your warm skin.
Cats Are Clean
Felines are also very easy to maintain as well; in fact, you really don’t have to do much other than take them to the vet for their cat medicine. Because they climb so much, they’re nails are kept short, and they also clean themselves by licking their fur. This may cause a few fur balls to crop up in unusual corners of the house, but it’s a small price to pay compared to the muddy paw-prints of a dog.
Cats are the ultimate household pet. When you’re looking for some peace and quiet, they’re nowhere to be seen, off on their adventures somewhere in the local area. When the home atmosphere is nice and relaxed, they’ll reappear and show some affection, and they’re very good at not overstaying their welcome. If you’re thinking about getting a pet this year, make sure it’s a cat!
Dogs Are A Hassle!
Because dogs are much bigger than cats, as well as being clumsier in their step, you’re much more likely to find a broken vase, muddy carpets and poo all over your home. Dogs require constant attention, and are much more difficult to maintain too. Just when you’ve found that quiet moment to relax, your dog will let you know that it wants to go outside and play, needs feeding or just wants to jump on you. If you’re looking for a quiet life, as well as a clean home, then it’s best to get a cat over a dog any day.
