If you are looking for a loyal friend and companion you need to look no further than your pet. Who gives you a better greeting when you come in from a hard day of work? Who showers you with attention and is the most appreciative of every effort you make on their behalf?
Pets are so unselfish while they provide us with an endless supply of love. Why wouldn’t we want to give them our love in return?
Keep your cat young by giving them a safe environment to climb in.
Reward kitty’s need to climb with spaced shelves allowing him or her with room to limber up and stretch. Even if you have decided to declaw your cat(s) they need a scratching space as it helps them to exercise their legs and feet in an instinctive way. While they are scratching they also release a scent (not noticeable to us that helps them to claim their territory so why not place a carpet remnant in an easy to access place or buy one of these interesting and decorating scratch climbing toys for your cat?
They love high vantage places.
Kitties also love high points in your home where they have the view of more interesting things, like this (pictured above) window seat or the shelf adjacent to the stair well. They are adventurous and naturally curious. While they are agile climbers, we still must take care to not lure kitty into an area where there is a risk of them not being able to get down. While many a cat has climbed a tree, a few have needed help to get down.
Do not relocate their “bathroom”.
Another important consideration for your cat(s) would be a clean area to relieve themselves in. Cats are very clean by nature and will instinctively use litter by day one, however, do not confuse the poor kitty by continually moving their cat litter tray. Decide where to keep it at and introduce it to the cat. Scoop it frequently and she and your nose will thank you for that. Also it is a good idea to find a brand you both like and stick to it. Some cats will turn their noses up to a change in brand and look for an alternative area to potty in like your favorite houseplant.
Cats are inquisitive so be careful about placing poisonous plants within their reach. . .
And their reach is almost anywhere. Cats also like wheat or kitty grass and eating this helps to settle their tummies. Be certain to keep other harmful plants out of their reach. Some are actually poisonous to your pet. To keep kitty out of your own plants dab lemon juice or Tabasco on them. Plants that can be dangerous for kitty are:
- Cherry laurel
- Common laurel
- Dumb cane or dieffenbachia
- Winter cherry
Doggie doors are not always a good idea for cats.
If you have a fenced in area, you may consider installing a doggie door for your dog so he can get lots of exercise and go outside to relieve him or her when he or she needs to. Be certain that you live in a safe environment where your little buddy can play unsupervised in the yard first of all. For your cat, however, there is a greater risk when you allow him or her to roam as a fence is a small obstacle for a cat and they will soon be exploring parts unknown.
Take good care of your pet and you will have many rewarding years with him or her.
Assuming you have taken care to purchase the right food for your pet(s) and to see that they receive medical care when they need it, you will be fortunate to enjoy many happy years with your buddy(s).
