Dogs are man’s best friend but they can also be your home’s worst nightmare. Your favorite pair of flats becomes a chew toy, your warmest blanket becomes shredded linen and disemboweled stuffing; with my dachshunds Otto and Pogo I have seen it all.
Pogo is almost 5 now and has mellowed considerably with age but in his day he could tear through my closet faster than anyone else in his weight class. These days he prefers cuddling under the blankets to ripping my favorite t shirt to shreds but he’s still known to have the occasional accident in the house which has already required us to replace our carpets twice.
Otto is just over 9 months old and is a 8lb holy terror. If this is just a puppy faze I cannot wait for him to outgrow it. His latest habit of mass destruction is to chew on the blinds while I’m at work .Worse yet he’s developed an insatiable appetite for wood; molding, table legs, cabinets nothing in my home is off limits.
I currently rent an apartment and between the carpets, the molding, the blinds, the damages add up quickly. Not to mention the cost of replacing my shoes, my couch (that’s right he ate the couch too!) this is why it is so important to purchase contents insurance for your home. The right policy can go a long way toward covering the costs that naughty paws tend to incur. Knowing you are covered allows you to enjoy the good times with your pets instead of worrying about all the trouble they are getting into when you’re not at home.
