There are a number of ways that most of us enjoy giving out dog the 60 minutes of exercise. While most of us think we need to come up with a crafty way to get our dogs the exercise they need, the truth is that all of this can be done fairly easily.
Your dog will naturally do the things that will keep him fit. They will be simple things like running around the back yard, and even walking in general. Just like humans, a dog has everything they need for physical well being on their own body. Taking advantage of this will help you keep your pet healthy and happy.
When you head out for a walk, there are some important things that you need to keep in mind. Short brisk walks are okay for a person, but for your dog, you shouldn’t do a walk that lasts less than 20 minutes at one time. While you might be able to get a mini workout in less time, they will see little to no benefit from the quick trip.
On the same token, long periods of quick walking and running can be a problem for your pet as well. You might be interested in taking a jog with your dog every morning, but if they aren’t physically fit enough, you can cause more harm than good for your pet. Keep this in mind, and try to gauge the physical activity you do with your pet. If you find they become exhausted after a simple walk, allow them to go for a slow walks each day as you gradually increase the speed they can handle.
As you are out walking your pet, avoid travelling down areas that have heavy traffic. Accidents happen in the spur of the moment, and you will want to do your best to avoid these problems from happening. Try going on back trails, and areas that have been designed for walking your pet. These safer alternatives will help you to avoid problems down the road.
Many dogs love water, and once you have determined your dog can swim, you might consider taking them to the river or the lake. This can be a great place for you to throw a stick and let them jump in excitedly and retrieve what you have thrown. A bonus of this exercise is that this can be a great way to increase both mental and physical fitness at the same time.
One other thing you might consider doing, is creating a dog run for your pet as well. Sometimes life can become hectic, and we don’t have the time to take them out for a walk or run, this will give them a way to keep fit and active.
Remember, owing a dog requires that you accept the responsibility that comes with them. If you have a very busy schedule that prevents you from giving them the physical needs they require, they might not be the right pet for you.
